Combining our in-house technical expertise and sustainable silt-control products, a Silt Capture Channel is a purpose-built water treatment channel designed and manufactured by us here at Frog Environmental.

It is made up of a number of our products (Floc Mats®, Silt Mats™ and Silt Wattles) and is used on construction sites and quarries. It slows the flow of dirty, sediment-laden water, filters out silt and fine sediment, and can “polish” the water before discharge to avoid causing silt pollution of nearby watercourses.

We designed a Silt Capture Channel as a primary way of removing suspended solids such as silt and clays, and particle-bound contaminants.

Where dissolved pollutants are a concern, pair the channel with appropriate upstream treatment (eg Gel Flocculant treatment via Pipe Reactor).

We recommend using one Silt Capture Channel for typical flows (900 L/min) or to run two in tandem for peak flow (up to 1,800 L/min). Either channel can be taken offline for refurbishment without halting treatment.

No, they are commonly installed above ground on an impermeable liner. Where site conditions allow or dictate, channels can also be set into shallow, lined formations. Our technical team can help advise you the best way to install for optimal performance.

Typical refurbishment of our Silt Capture Channel water treatment system is around three to four times per year depending on use and volume of water being treated.

We have designed this product with budget-friendly, low maintenance client aims in mind. Made up of a number of our standalone products enables site teams to replace used components as required, with minimal downtime.

The materials used to create Silt Capture Channels are biodegradable. Depending on your site waste management plan and permissions, they can be repurposed onsite for erosion control or placed around new planting, helping reduce waste and costs.
