Flocculant in Water Treatment

Gel Flocculant for Silt Control

Gel Flocculant is a highly effective and environmentally safe way of introducing flocculant into ditches, drains, pumped discharges or effluent streams to cleanse muddy water and trap silt and other contaminants like nutrients, metals and hydrocarbons.

Gel Flocculant is a safe, solid gel block flocculant that activates on contact with flowing water.

It’s unique formulation encourages fine silts and mobilised clay to clump together, settle and be captured, providing low carbon, highly cost effective water treatment on construction sites.

Unmade ground on construction sites are particularly vulnerable and without adequate protection, rain will lead to fine particles of clayey soil and silt being carried long distances off site into streams and rivers causing pollution and harm to aquatic ecosystems.

At Frog Environmental, we’re proud to be the exclusive UK and European partner for Clearflow Group’s Gel Flocculant and GFR water treatment systems.

Clearflow Gel Flocculant supports:
  • Construction and infrastructure sites
  • Runoff attenuation features
  • Agricultural and forestry operations
  • Enhance artificial dispersion
  • Mining & quarrying operations

Key benefits

Environmentally safe, crystal clear water that meets regulatory compliance

Rapid silt settlement

Accelerates sedimentation from hours or days to seconds

Highly economical

Whole life costs considerably lower than tank-based system alternatives, reducing long term project expenditure

Passive and self-dosing

Operates without pumps or dosing systems, dissolves only in turbulent flow

Versatile deployment

Effective in ditches & drains as well as pumped systems using Clearflow GFR or Pipe Reactors.

Highly economical

Non hazardous gel which is fish safe and is cited on countless environmental permits across the UK

Engineered for sites

We supply a few different variations of flocculant to suit your site’s soil chemistry. Our Technical Team will help you to determine the best set up depending on your site and project.

Technical specification of Clearflow’s Gel Flocculant:

Form Dehydrated gel blocks, with multiple formulations tailored to different soil chemistries.
Site specific specification and testing Deployment methodology, whether pumped or passive, is determined by Frog’s technical team following the standard Settlement Test procedure. This helps to ensure correct block specification, optimum installation locations and an appropriate maintenance plan.
Deployment options Coir (80%), Jute (20%)
Installation and maintenance Passive flow systems: suitable for drains, ditches or channels, operate as carbon neutral water treatment for clay impacted waters, offering a unique sustainability advantage.
Pumped systems : use Pipe Reactors or Clearflow GFRs for consistent dosing where flows are actively pumped.
Whole life costing and carbon performance
Passive deployments of Gel Flocculant are carbon neutral in operation.

Whole life costs, covering installation, operation and maintenance, are typically an order of magnitude lower than tank based treatment systems.

“Frog Environmental were knowledgeable, helping to establish a workable, cost-effective and low maintenance solution for site approved by the regulator. They really understood the water management issues we had on site and worked with us to develop a solution which works, as well as engaging with our operatives to ensure that they could effectively manage the system.

We are delighted to have found a solution that prevents pollution and protects the environment, and ultimately allows us to continue with construction.”
