Gel Flocculant is a safe, solid gel block flocculant that activates on contact with flowing water.

It’s unique formulation encourages fine silts and mobilised clay to clump together, settle and be captured, providing low carbon, highly cost effective water treatment on construction sites.

Unmade ground on construction sites are particularly vulnerable and without adequate protection, rain will lead to fine particles of clayey soil and silt being carried long distances off site into streams and rivers causing pollution and harm to aquatic ecosystems.

Technical specification of Clearflow’s Gel Flocculant:

Form	Dehydrated gel blocks, with multiple formulations tailored to different soil chemistries.
Block weight	2kg
Site specific specification and testing	Deployment methodology, whether pumped or passive, is determined by Frog’s technical team following the standard Settlement Test procedure. This helps to ensure correct block specification, optimum installation locations and an appropriate maintenance plan.
Deployment options	Gel Flocculant can be used with a pumped system, or passively. Passive flow systems: suitable for drains, ditches or channels, operate as carbon neutral water treatment for clay impacted waters, offering a unique sustainability advantage. Pumped systems : use Pipe Reactors or Clearflow GFRs for consistent dosing where flows are actively pumped.
Installation and maintenance	The blocks are placed at key flow points, either in channel or in engineered housings, with periodic checks of dissolution and downstream capture as set out in each site specific maintenance plan. Block lifespan	Gel Flocculant blocks are part of our Rain Ready® water treatment system. They only activate with flowing water and don’t degrade in sunlight. While every site will wear the blocks at different rates depending on levels of rainfall, amount of silt loading and whether the site is actively pumping or using the blocks passively, as a guide we say blocks last around 30 days in a pumped system and up to 90 days when used passively.
Whole life costing and carbon performance	Passive deployments of Gel Flocculant are carbon neutral in operation. Whole life costs, covering installation, operation and maintenance, are typically an order of magnitude lower than tank based treatment systems.

How is Gel Flocculant deployed on site?

Blocks can be placed directly in flowing ditches or drains, or inserted into a Pipe Reactor or Clearflow GFR system for pumped applications.

All deployments are supported by our specialist technical team using site specific calculations and Settlement Tests to ensure correct dosage, installation and maintenance. We also offer videos and CAD drawings – see the installation tab of our product page.
What stage of a project can Gel Flocculant be used?

Gel Flocculant can be used at any stage of project, however it is most effective when we are involved early on. Early engagement allows our technical team to plan correctly and take a process driven approach to specification; saving money, time, reducing carbon and protecting the environment. Reactive use is also possible, but always follows a structured process to ensure correct usage and efficacy.
How quickly does sediment settle using Gel Flocculant?

Most silt settles within seconds, as the flocculation process dramatically accelerates particulate settling and enables clean discharge in line with regulatory requirements. Watch our video showing one of our settlement tests in action.
Is it safe to use near aquatic habitats?

Yes. Gel Flocculant is a non toxic, regulator approved technology that has been independently validated as safe for aquatic environments. Correct specification through a Settlement Test ensures effective treatment without risk of overdosing.

What is the difference between our In-ditch Polishing Point and In-ditch Treatment Point techniques?
- In-ditch Polishing Point: consists of just Floc Mats, Silt Mats and Silt Wattles for a capturing and separating silt from flowing water. It is designed to ‘polish’ the water rather than our other treatment alternatives better designed for bulk drop out.
- In-ditch Treatment Point: includes the use of Gel Flocculant to bind fine silt particles to treat the water, as well as our mats which capture the suspended material while the surface water flows over them.
