Silt Mats™ are a new product from frog environmental designed to reduce downstream pollution from suspended sediment. They target sediment capture and removal from ditches, streams and river channels.

The 2 x 1 metre mat has been extensively tested by Swansea University on active construction sites, with consistently strong results: Key points include:

• Trapping and retaining more than 20kg of sediment per square meter
• Preventing the resuspension of this fine material in high flows
• Collecting smaller silt particle sizes to those found on the stream bed

Placement of Silt Mat™ has also been studied and findings show that for maximum efficiency the mats should be placed in areas of natural sediment deposition or in areas of the channel that can be manipulated to slow flows, promoting sedimentation. Silt Mat™ can also be used to help filter fine silt particles in shallow water

A further use of the Silt Mat™ is in combination with the Pipe Reactor, trapping flocculated particles to provide easy silt separation and removal.
