Bruce Kania CEO of Floating Island International and the inventor of BioHaven Floating Islands didn’t hesitate when the call came to speak at a TEDx event in his local town of Billings, Montana.
The topic for his TED talk, ‘transition waters’ was never in doubt. Bruce has long been tackling the problem of excess nutrients responsible for causing severe environmental damage in water bodies all around the globe.
Bruce coined the term ‘transition waters’, which refers to waters where excess water-borne nutrients can be transitioned through the food web and ultimately harvested.
A healthy and vibrant fish stock is a critical part of Bruce’s plan to create transition waters all the way around the world. His invention, BioHaven, is a critical component for creating a flourishing natural fishery; not only does the system provide shelter and food for the fish but it also cleans water and reduces algae.
The same BioHaven that supports strong fish recruitment can also be used to grow and harvest crops such as tomatoes and marsh samphire. This process creates an abundance of wildlife and natural food whilst transitioning water bodies towards a cleaner, healthier and more productive future.
Bruce’s passion for the environment will never fade, he is energized by working with dynamic people who share his vision for providing simple and effective solutions to nutrient-impaired waters.
Please take the time to listen to the story of how the first transitional water body came about and how you can answer the call to help support the regeneration of our waters.
