Bubble Curtains & Silt – an animation

The Science Behind Bubble Curtains

This beautiful animation explains how Bubble Curtains can be used as a barrier to protect fish and hold back silt and sediment during construction or dredging works in water. It can also be used for permanent fish passes, guiding fish past permanent in-stream obstructions such as weirs and turbines. Bubble Curtains can be used as permanent or temporary solutions for marine and freshwater projects. They have wide application ranging from underwater noise pollution to silt control, abstraction protection, inlet protection, litter and weed prevention and emergency aeration, and can be designed to suit the scale of the project. The Bubble Tubing® technology is used to create a vertical wall of air bubbles from the water body floor to surface. A small compressor pushes air along the cleverly designed perforated pipe which releases a consistent stream of fine bubbles through the entire water column. Aerating water will also improve water quality, reducing turbidity and encouraging healthy microbial activity. This animation was by the very talented Tashina Alam.
