Floc Mats helping improve water quality

Floc Mats have been developed as part of a wider environmental protection plan to manage the movement of suspended solids, trapping fine silt and sediment. Floc mats can be placed in channel to capture sediment or to polish water following treatment by a Pipe Reactor. Lines of Floc mat were used in a river by Salix to prevent silt laden water travelling downstream on a major pipeline project. The mats can be tailored to local water and soil chemistry; they proved effective in helping keep downstream water clean and the project on schedule. Water flows over and through the Floc mat capturing sediment in their high surface area natural fibre mat. The mats are made from 100% natural materials, are fully biodegradable and designed to trap sediment during dewatering, earth and sediment disturbance activities. Suspended sediments generated as a result of working in channel or next to rivers can cause environmental pollution, which may result in significant fines under the recent environment sentencing guidelines. Floc Mat® has been proven in the field to provide simple and cost effective silt mitigation.
