Le Borgne, V., Sy, D. 2018. In-situ underwater sound attenuation measurements of the Bubble Tubing®
Abstract
The experimental tests conducted by GKM Consultants on behalf of Canadianpond.ca Products ltd. show that their Bubble Tubing® technology provides high attenuation of underwater sound. While attenuation is more pronounced at high frequencies, it is still sufficiently high at low frequencies (i.e. < 1000 Hz) to lower the impact of human activities on marine animals. Attenuation is also shown to be a function of flow and number of layers of Bubble Tubing ® deployed in parallel, with higher efficiency at high frequencies. Typical attenuation in the current study varies between approximately 20 dB at frequencies below 500 Hz to over 80 dB at frequencies up to 20 kHz.
