Volunteers Launch BioHavens in London

BioHaven on Thames 21 River Lea project

BioHaven on Thames 21 River Lea project

It’s been a busy spring and summer for BioHaven Floating Treatment Wetlands, with launches for local authorities, Wildlife Trusts, developers and landscapers both in the UK and across Europe. Value engineering has allowed us to make this premium product more affordable whilst still offering a unique design using internal buoyancy. London launches involved Thames 21 and London Borough of Tower Hamlets, who each brought hard working teams of volunteers to help plant and launch the islands. The ease with which BioHaven modules connect and launch has meant a huge rise in frog environmental supporting organisations in launching their own islands. This keeps project costs to a minimum whilst still bringing all the brilliant water quality and habitat benefits of BioHaven. The system is modular and scalable, so larger installations can be developed over time. BioHaven mimics a natural wetland and provides many of the same ecosystems services; it has been successfully installed in freshwater, brackish water and even the sea. We are always at the cutting edge on research and innovation which is why we are excited to highlight this PhD opportunity looking into floating and fixed artificial reefs at Swansea University, using BioHavens to create habitats and mitigation in the marine environment.
